Syslee Schael

An explorer and creator from an early age, Syslee was born into a family of artists; her
mother a basket weaver, her grand father a painter. This creative energy led Syslee to find
her own art through nature. Growing up in rural Southern Oregon she spent her childhood
at her mother’s side roaming the riversides and seashores collecting dogwood, willow,
and sea kelp used to make furniture and baskets. Early on Syslee felt at home in this
environment.

A passion for cooking and wild foods led Syslee to Portland, Or. where she attended
culinary school. The desire to educate and share the wild bounty of foraged foods with
her community led her to open, Table, a supper club. While expanding her knowledge of
wild plants she discovered that not only did these plants serve as an excellent source of
nutritious food but that they contained great healing properties. This realization unearthed
the world of holistic healthcare and plant medicine. She quickly realized that healing with
plants and food was indeed her true passion.

In the spring of 2012 Syslee packed her car and headed south for California where she
began her studies at Ohlone Herbal Center. Now most spare moments are spent roaming
the near by woods learning from the plants and gather ingredients for the next shared
supper. Currently, Syslee is seeing clients at Ohlone’s Clinic, and developing a holistic
food product line.
