Before beginning nursing school 10 years ago, Vanessa Remhof was a street medic and volunteer supporting survivors of sexual assault both on a hotline and in the Emergency Department. She graduated in 2005 with a bachelors of science in nursing. She first worked as an ER/trauma nurse in Chicago and then moved into public health 5 years ago. She now works with people who are homeless/marginally housed and have multiple complex medical, psychological and substance abuse issues compounded by a history of trauma. She started seriously studying herbal medicine in 2010 and finds that it pairs very nicely with the nursing approach.
